Correlated Electromagnet Array Selected as Industry Game-Changer

electromagnet array technology from Correlated Magnetics Research (CMR) was recently selected by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers as one of the 2011Innovations That Could Change the Way You Manufacture.

An annual effort of SME's Innovation Watch Committee of the Manufacturing Enterprise Council, this list showcases new and emerging technologies and processes that are already making a difference in manufacturing.

"Our Committee's goal is to scan the vast technology landscape for cutting-edge innovations and to investigate ways they can be utilized," said committee member Christopher Kaye, director of innovative technology, US Endoscopy.

< drum garbage compactor p>The newly patented idea from CMR employs a surface array of electromagnets, a control system to vary the polarity of individual electromagnet elements in time, and a free-moving object programmed to attach precisely using correlated magnetics technology.

Using th used rc helicopter market place e control system to create and then "move" a pattern by discreet steps through the electromagnet array, the coded magnet device will correlate with (and bind to) the moving magnetic field pattern. In this manner, objects can be transported from one point to another without mechanical means. The array can be any size and the surface can be arbitrary. Manufacturing and complex assembly operations that rely on robotic positioning and transport systems can deploy those systems in the vertical dimension or even make use of ceiling space.

"Manufacturing automation and mechanization is an obvious application for correlated magnetics enabled by electromagnet arrays," said correlated magnetics inventor and CMR CEO Larry Fullerton. "Prior to this, we have shown, with permanent magnets, the precision alignment control and benefits in tensile and shear strength for coupling correlated magnetic devices. Now, with a software-controlled electromagnet array, we can add the time dimension and substantially extend the capabilities of our technology."

Other innovations recognized this year include: quantum dots, microstructured molding tools, a remote-presence robot, super velcro using shape memory p garbage compactor review olymer, graphene – the strongest known material and Build To Demand – a capacity static garbage compactor -driven production strategy.

Innovations That Could Change the Way You Manufacture will be a central focus of the Manufacturing Velocity: SME Annual Conference scheduled for June 5-7, 2011, in a Seattle suburb. Attendees of this conference can learn more about the programmable electromagnetic array when CMR vice-president Ron Jewell presents Correlated Electromagnets and Manufacturing. The conference will bring together manufacturing professionals and leaders from throughout North America and beyond who are interested in innovations and exchanging ideas in one place.

Multitest’s Mercury Contactors for Wafer-Level Test Deployed to Subcontractors in Asia

PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 17, 2011– Rosenheim, Germany -- Multitest, a designer and manufacturer of final test handlers, contactors and load boards used by integrat drum garbage compact wood lathes machine or ed device manufacturers (IDMs) and final test subcontractors worldwide, announces that another major fabless semiconductor manufacturer has evaluated and approved its Mercury-based wafer-level contactors. These Mercury contactors have eight sites and more than spring probes per site.     The contactors passed all qualification tests in the United States and now have been deployed to multiple testing subcontractors in Taiwan and Singapore. Based on this successful evaluation, the manufacturer has awarded Multitest with two additional WLCSP projects. Several of the Asian subcontractors have experience with the Mercury technology and are pleased with the long life, low maintenance requirements and low replacement probe price that the Mercury contactors provide.

The Mercury success story includes thousands of contactors for singulated devices, strip test and wafer-level test. The popularity of Mercury is due to the superior mechanical and electrical garbage compactor review performance that results from its unique architecture and manufacturing process. To quantify the performance, the probes have a bandwidth of approximately 20 GHz, a current-carrying capacity of more than 2 A, an inductance of approximately 1 nH and a life of waste compactor over one million insertions at wafer-level (values are pitch-dependent).

SNEAK PEEK: Agency Power's AP Carbon Up and Running with Carbon Fiber Porsche Panamera Y-Pipe

PRLog (Press Re truck garbage compactor lease)– Mar 18, 2011– Agency Power's new AP Carbon division is up and running.  AP Carbon will be designing and making it's own line of Carbon Fiber Products in house, in the USA.

Please stay tuned(and subscribe!) to Agency Power's Blog, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook Fan Page for a full in depth Feature on AP Carbon, soon!

In the meantime, here is a sneak peek at the first AP Carbon part, the Carbon Fiber Porsche Panamera Y-Pipe!

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION FROM AGENCY POWER'S ALUMINUM PORSCHE PANAMERA Y-PIPE :  "Looking a trash compactor review t the stock Y design in front of the throttle body, we new there was improvements to be made. This throttle body is the same size as the Cayenne TT throttle body we use on our 996TT and 997TT upgrade kits. The stock Y-Pipe is a 2 piece plastic Y design that is smooth on the inside with a "deflector" internally to channel air. The bad part about the stock one is it goes from a 78mm ID at the throttle body down to a approximately 51mm diameter Y split. This then connects to rubber boost hoses that expand under pressure. Both of these are a power robber! If you retain the stock design and stock diameter hoses, YOU CANNOT GAIN power. This is why we made a complete Y-Pipe kit which retains a 3inch design all the way to the factory end piece connections at the intercoolers.

The dyno sheet shows the car in standard mode with the stock Y piece versus our big Y-Pipe kit. These are huge gains throughout the ENTIRE rpm band which is impressive. Dyno static garbage compactor proven results are not something to see, but something you can feel. The more airflow you get into that throttlebody the more HP you will gain. By eliminating the rubber boost hoses, you remove the pressure fluctuation from expansion which loses power. With our Y-Pipe kit, the air flow improvement improves every aspect of driving your Panamera Turbo. As tested on our Mustang AWD Dyno, the Y-Pipe made 34awhp and 35ft/lbs of torque."

Accelerate your vibration testing

PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 12, 2011– Fortunately, Brüel & Kjær and HBM-nCode offer pr trash compactor review oducts that significantly reduce vibration test times without exposing the vehicle or component to unrealistic vibration levels.

Traditional Gaussian random test signals can't accurately represent the 'peaky' vibration signals seen in the real-life use of many products. To address this, the LDS LASERUSB Vibration Controller from Brüel & Kjær offers non-Gaussian random vibration through its Kurtosis Control software.

The ability to tailor kurtosis ('peakedness') allows for accelerated fatigue testing that saves time, as testing with high kurtosis delivers more time at high acceleration levels. For a durability test lasting many hours, high-kurtosis testing delivers significantly more fatigue damage than a Gaussian random test.

So how do you accurately simulate the conditions that brought about your measured field data? That's where nCode GlyphWorks® software by HBM comes in, as the only commercial software that makes it possible to quantify the fatigue of vibration testing and subsequently create a representative PSD or garbage compactor review swept-sine shaker vibration test. nCode GlyphWorks enables the combination of multiple time or frequency domain data sets into representative test spectra that accelerate the test while matching the fatigue damage seen in the field data.

As HBM is a sister company to Brüel & Kjær under the Spectris umbrella, accelerated test spectra exported from nCode GlyphWorks are easily imported into Brüel & Kjær controllers to perform shaker table tests.

QC Software’s Guidelines for a Strong Quality Improvement Program in the Warehouse

PRLog (Press Release)– Mar 11, 2011– The goal of every warehouse and distribution center (and indeed every company) is to provide great customer service while minim garbage compactor izing the cost of doing business. waste compactor

To achieve this goal, it is essential to have a strong quality improvement program.  This means maintaining consistency throughout the operation.

According to Jerry List, Vice President of QC Software (http://www.qcsoftware.com), a leading provider of warehouse control software, "Quality improvement is key to operating a lean business. When continuous improvement is an integral part of the company culture,   businesses are customer focused and better prepared to manage market fluctuations."

Guidelines for Implementing an Effective Quality Improvement Program:

Know your operation. Find o wood lathes machine ut how well your facility is currently performing. Assess the physical layout, processes and technology. Implement key changes that improve productivity and minimize errors. Continue to monitor your processes and focus on increasing the velocity.

Implement standards for all departments and employees. All employees should understand standard operating procedures for their departments and job functions. These procedures should be reviewed periodically and revised as needed.

Understand the customer's needs. Make sure you understand how, when and where the customer uses your product and how much is needed. You can then manage production and distribution accordingly.

Create a collaborative environment.  It is senior management's responsibility to foster a positive work environment where people can learn from each other and work together to solve problems.  Departments should be able to freely communicate with each other as well as with suppliers and customers. Improving the flow of information will minimize misunderstandings.

Focus on the total cost. Look at the entire supply chain - purchasing, receiving, storage, fulfillment and shipping – to get a picture of all costs. For example, the amount of inventory purchased should depend on storage space and consumer consumption. Purchasing an insuf static garbage compactor ficient amount of inventory increases back orders, while purchasing too much results in more returns. Either way, there are additional costs in the long run.

QC Software (http://www.qcsoftware.com) is recognized as an industry leader in providing innovative software solutions for order fulfillment and distribution centers. These solutions enable customers to streamline their warehouse operations with the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry.  By using cutting-edge technology, their warehouse control system (WCS), the QC Enterprise, provides greater visibility and control throughout the supply chain.  And, as the customer's business grows and evolves, QC Software's agile WCS easily adapts to their changing business needs.

French film about Holocaust to be shown in Iran

Filmmaker Claude Lanzmann's renowned 9-plus-hour film "Shoah" includes testimony from concentration camp survivors and employees about the slaughter of millions of Jews in Europe during World War II. He worked for 11 years on the film, which was released in 1985.

The Aladdin Project, a Paris-based group, says the film will be shown starting Monday over the next several days on the large Los Angeles-based satellite channel Pars.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has questioned historical accounts of the Holocaust, and called for Israel's destruction.

Lanzmann says the documentary may be an effective vehicle to counter the Holocaust denial.

"Truth is transmitted by (such) works .... It is works of art that are the true building stones of memory," Lanzmann said in an interview. At the very least, Iranians "will have the chance to form their own opinions" about the Holocaust.

"I'm capable of crying seeing an Iranian movie, a Japanese movie. Why wouldn't the opposite be true?"

The Aladdin Project tried twice to get a green light from Iranian authorities to hold a news conference in Tehran about the killing of Jews during World War II, but received no response, Abe Radkin, the group's executive director, told The Associated Press.

"If the Iranian government agrees to broadcast (the film) on a public channel, we would welcome it," Radkin said.

Lanzmann said his work has a universal message.

"It's something that happened to the Jews, but in truth it (the film) is addressed to all of humanity. In some way, we can say that it happened to all of humanity."

TV satellite dishes are outlawed in Iran, but enforcement of the ban is spotty. Many people no longer worry about concealing the dishes. In recent months, authorities have targeted some sections of Tehran to remove dishes, but the sweeps appear to be isolated.

The Aladdin Project has also dubbed the film into Arabic and Turkish. It will be shown in Turkey at the Istanbul film festival next month, then a week later on the TRT channel, Radkin said.

The group had planned to broadcast the film on an Egyptian channel, but has put the plans on hold amid unrest that ousted longtime President Hosni Mubarak.

"We will wait a bit so that the political situation in Arab countries allows the broadcast of such a film," he said. "We need a peaceful atmosphere to concentrate on this message."

The Aladdin Project has backing from UNESCO, the educational and cultural arm of the United Nations.

NBA says 'not so sure' about yearly London games

The New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors play Friday and Saturday at the O2 Arena, the same venue that has hosted sellout games the last four preseasons.

"I'm not so sure about every season, but I think it will become a regular feature," NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver said. "I think it depends in large part on the success we have this weekend."

The NFL has played regular-season games at Wembley Stadium the last four seasons. But the NBA, with teams playing several times a week, is trying to figure out if the travel is too much for the players.

Silver also echoed Commissioner David Stern's comments about the possibility of having a franchise in Europe, saying there likely would be more than one.

"If we were to bring a franchise to Europe, it would be a division," Silver said, noting that it probably would take a decade to get it done. "I think it's possible."

The O2 Arena is an NBA-style venue that has also hosted concerts, including the Led Zeppelin reunion show in 2007. Although there are few other arenas in Europe up to NBA standards, Paris and Berlin appear likely candidates to get teams.

"We have to make sure the infrastructure is right," Silver said, "but we also have to make sure that the revenue streams can support NBA-style basketball."

Bomb kills NATO service member in Afghanistan

The international military coalition said on Saturday that the service member died after a bomb attack on Friday. It did not provide the victim's nationality or any other details.

NATO typically waits for the relevant national authorities to confirm deaths of service members.

The death was the third in March. A total of 70 NATO service members have been killed so far this year.

$430k Love settlement shows tweets can be costly

The singer has agreed to pay Dawn Simorangkir $430,000, plus interest, to settle a lawsuit the designer filed in March 2009 over comments Love made on Twitter and her MySpace blog.

While the case didn't go to a jury, First Amendment experts say it highlights the need for celebrities and average people to watch what they say online.

"People are getting in trouble for Twitter postings on an almost daily basis," said First Amendment Attorney Doug Mirell, a partner at Loeb and Loeb who did not handle the case.

"The laws controlling what is and isn't libelous are the same regardless of the medium in which the statements appear," he said.

Nancy Derwin-Weiss, an attorney who specializes in digital entertainment and advertising law, said the amount was sure to get the attention of stars and their handlers.

"I think it's just a wake up call," she said. "It's something that their advisers should talk to them about."

Simorangkir's attorney, Bryan J. Freedman, predicted the case would spark conversations between celebrities and their advisers.

"The fact is that this case shows that the forum upon which you communicate makes no difference in terms of potential legal exposure," Freedman said. "Disparaging someone on Twitter does not excuse one from liability."

Love's attorney, Jim Janowitz, said the settlement actually saved the rocker money. "This is a case where the economics of the case didn't make a lot of sense for either side," he said, noting that the costs of going to trial would have been large.

Janowitz said he would have argued that Love's statements were opinion and hyperbole, but not libelous, and that Simorangkir's sales rose after Love's tirades.

Derwin-Weiss, a partner at Wildman, Harrold, Allen & Dixon, said the settlement amount was significant.

"It's a number that's not trivial," she said. "It has some heft to it."

Twitter's popularity has skyrocketed in the past year, in part because celebrities interact with fans on a daily basis by posting candid photos, thoughts and even product endorsements.

The widow of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain, Love has gained a reputation on the microblogging service Twitter with her posts, which are occasionally profane and sometimes nonsensical messages on a variety of topics. Several posts have lashed out at attorneys and other individuals who have drawn the musician's ire, with her tweets coming in rapid succession and using every bit of the site's 140 character maximum per post.

Simorangkir sued over several postings written under Love's former Twitter account, courtneylover79, that accused the designer, who is known as Boudoir Queen, of theft and of having a criminal background.

Simorangkir's lawsuit claimed Love became angry with her after she completed five outfits for the singer and sent her a bill.

"Love mounted a malicious campaign to not only terrorize Simorangkir, but to ruin and destroy her reputation and livelihood," Freedman wrote in a May 2009 filing.

The case had been scheduled to go to trial in February, and was expected to be the first in which a jury decides whether a celebrity's Twitter posts could be considered libel.

Freedman confirmed that a settlement had been reached, and said Love's attorneys had hoped to keep it confidential. Love also settled another lawsuit filed by Simorangkir's husband over photos for a nominal amount, Janowitz said.

"In order to show the world the comments were derogatory and completely illegal, it was imperative to my client to have the settlement be public," Freedman said.

The attorney said a public statement will be issued next week, but the monetary settlement that Love is required to pay, reflects the seriousness of the case.

"Personally, I think $430,000 is an appropriate way to say she's sorry," Freedman said.

Mirell said stars need to be cautious about how and what they post online, especially when they're talking about others.

"When you start talking about someone other than yourself, you are beginning to get into dangerous territory," Mirell said.

Janowitz predicted other celebrities are likely to get into trouble over their social media musings.

"Undoubtedly there will be people who do it until it is better understood that this publication, just like anything else, is publication," he said.

Shiite protesters in Bahrain encircle capital

Tensions have been high in the Gulf kingdom, the host of the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, since a street battle between Sunnis and Shiites on Thursday left at least a dozen people injured.

No police were in sight as protesters — men and women — held hands to encircle Manama, where Bahrain's Shiite majority has been leading daily demonstrations to end what they say are discriminatory policies and political persecution.

Seven protesters have been killed since Bahrain's Shiites took their grievances to the streets, rattling one of the wealthiest corners of the Middle East, where it was long assumed that oil riches would stave off the kind of unrest that has roiled Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen and Libya.

Bahrain's sectarian division, however, left it vulnerable.

The island's security forces have been on high alert after Thursday's clash between Sunnis and the majority Shiites leading anti-government protests, centered at Manama's Pearl Square.

One of the Shiites injured, 23-year-old Hussein Badr, said the attackers appeared to be Sunnis from other parts of the Arab world who were given Bahraini nationality under a policy to boost Sunni numbers.

Bahrain's Shiite majority has been ruled for 200 years by a Sunni dynasty. Its supporters rallied in separate demonstrations in the past weeks, but some members of Bahrain's minority Muslim sect joined the Shiite protesters in opposition to the ruling Al Khalifa family at Saturday's event.

"I am part of the human chain because I believe in unity," said Amal Freed, a 28-year-old paralegal and a Sunni. "My love for Bahrain doesn't mean that I have to be loyal to the royal family. I want my basic rights and the corrupted government to go."

Bahrain holds particular importance to Washington as the host of U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, the main American military counterweight to Iran's efforts to expand its armed forces and reach into the Gulf.

Publicist: Arquette 'OK' after Beverly Hills crash

The 39-year-old actor was "OK" after the collision and was on his way to being treated, publicist Cindy Guagenti told The Associated Press in an e-mail.

A Beverly Hills Fire Department dispatcher said a head-on collision happened on Doheny Drive, just north of Santa Monica Boulevard along the city's border with West Hollywood. She could not provide details on the victims or their status. She declined to give her name.

Celebrity website TMZ reported that Arquette was in a head-on collision at about 2 p.m. local time, and posted pictures that showed the actor lying on a patch of roadside grass next to a pair of vehicles with damage on their front bumpers and airbags deployed.

Video posted on the site showed paramedics and firefighters putting a man who appears to be Arquette on a stretcher and lifting him into an ambulance.

Arquette and wife Courteney Cox announced that they were separating in October.

The pair met when they appeared in the film "Scream" in 1996, and are co-starring in the fourth installment of the horror series due out later this year. They have a 6-year-old daughter together.

Arquette has also starred in the films "Never Been Kissed" and "3000 Miles to Graceland."

Defiant Tripoli neighborhood endures crackdowns

"They opened fire everywhere from anti-aircraft guns. We felt it was an earthquake," said one of the marchers. Another described barrages of gunfire that lit up the sky "like lightening." Those who managed to flee saw bodies of slain protesters dumped on the back of pickup trucks and taken away.

On other days, neighborhood residents said they were fired on by armed and masked men, saw their neighbors dragged from their homes at night and faced the anxiety of injured relatives disappearing from their hospital beds. Some said they are still searching for bodies of slain relatives to bury, but can't find them.

In a city that remains tightly in the grip of longtime Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, Tajoura is a rare pocket of defiance.

And it is paying the price. Residents say at least 17 people in the neighborhood have been killed in the crackdown and the fate of at least six others is unknown.

Anti-Gadhafi activists and renegade army units have seized about half of Libya's coastline, including a number of major cities in the east. But they have made little headway in western Tripoli, the regime stronghold that is home to about a third of the country's six million people. Pro-Gadhafi militias have been particularly harsh in suppressing any dissent in the capital — much of their violence targeting anti-regime protesters in Tajoura.

The neighborhood of about 100,000 on Tripoli's eastern edge is one of capital's oldest and largest, made up mainly of poor and middle class Libyans. It is dotted with two- and three-storey residential buildings, with an open-air fruit and vegetable market and garbage piling up on the streets.

All shops are shuttered and residents say they are on strike or afraid to open them. The buildings that represent government authority, including a police station and a telecoms office, have been torched and their walls are covered in black soot. But perhaps the neighborhood's most distinguishing mark is the graffiti scrawled on walls all over that derides Gadhafi as a "dog" and declares: "We will not retreat: Either victory or death."

Residents hack down palm trees and scatter rocks in the streets to keep pro-Gadhafi forces out. During marches, they cover walls the walls with more graffiti.

Each morning, the militias clear the roads and repaint the walls. But just as soon as they leave, the protesters scrawl new graffiti.

Residents told an Associated Press reporter who visited the neighborhood Monday of their many attempts to hold anti-Gadhafi marches over the past ten days and the regime's swift and brutal moves to suppress them. All the residents and witnesses spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal.

One young man said they tried to march on three days last week, the final time on Friday, which they dubbed "the day of massacre."

On Wednesday, they marched to Tajoura's central square, but quickly found themselves surrounded by militia vehicles and under heavy fire from anti-aircraft guns. The next day, they marched toward the sea that borders the area, only to take cover in a graveyard from militia gunfire, witnesses said.

The neighborhood rallied for a larger march on Friday after Muslim midday prayers.

A mobile phone video shot by a marcher showed thousands marching, holding the flag of Libya's pre-Gadhafi monarchy and chanting" ''The people want to topple the regime" — the rallying cry of protests who succeeded in bringing down leaders in Libya's neighbors, Tunisia and Egypt. One protester said women cheered on the marchers from their balconies.

A second video showed protesters scattering under heavy gunfire, screaming "God is great!"

Gunmen in pickup trucks, ambulances and white taxis with female soldiers in them fired wildly into the crowd, spraying them with a hail of bullets, residents said.

A third video showed protesters carrying a man who had been shot, his bloody head leaving a trail of red liquid smeared on the street.

At night, pro-government forces raided local homes, dragging a few activists off to unknown locations.

Gadhafi and his son, Seif al-Islam, have denied repeatedly that force has been used against demonstrators.

But Tajoura's residents say it's all a big lie.

"They talk about negotiations and talks," one resident said. "They know no language but weapons."

One man said his 43-year-old uncle was shot in the shoulder during the Friday march. The family took him to the hospital, but he disappeared the next day.

"The whole family is in fear," he said. "They know nothing about my uncle. We can't even ask because if we ask, we might join him."

Another family called a doctor to their house to remove a bullet from a man's knee, fearing that he, too, would disappear if he went to the hospital.

Those killed are quietly buried nearby, residents said, since relatives fear the regime is removing bodies from morgues to hide the unrest's death count.

Several hundred people marched on Monday, but dispersed quickly when forces came.

But their defiance takes smaller forms, too.
